As part of their residency at BabsonARTS, four members of Guy Mendilow Ensemble; Chris Baum, Guy Mendilow, Mike Rivard, and Sofia Tosello, have graciously offered to meet one on one with students to discuss careers in the arts, and other arts topics and interests. This will take place at the Sorenson Center on March 23rd, 2023. Sign up for a time slot here, and read more below for information about the performers.

CHRIS BAUM is a contemporary violinist, composer, and educator. Topics: Orchestration, touring with a band, freelancing

GUY MENDILOW was raised in an academic immigrant family prioritizing continuous learning, disciplined curiosity and improving others’ lives. Alongside producing and directing GME’s shows, Mendilow leads social/civic-practice residencies, story/listening circles, lectures and choral collaborations cultivating long-lasting connections between performing arts organizations and communities, from juvenile rehabilitation centers and K-12 schools to university campuses. Topics: Directing touring ensembles, project design (primarily in the arts), creating a multi-media production, principles and strategies of proposal writing, general advice for developing a career in the creative arts, cultivating healthy relationship with praise-worthy failure and risk, practice - what it is, strategies to achieve it, and how this may also apply to non-artists

MIKE RIVARD (Basses, Sintir) finds himself at home in an array of settings: From the low-rock of Mark Sandman and Morphine, to the mountains of Morocco with local Berber musicians, with side trips into the Broadway pits of The Lion King and Wicked, and sessions with Medeski Martin & Wood. Topics: The Moroccan Sintir, Gnawa music from Morocco, learning to play the North African Cha'abi rhythm, trance music as a healing medium

SOFIA TOSELLO (vocalist) draws on her expertise in Latin American Cancion traditions like Tango, Chacarera, Bolero, Son and Zamba to bring GME vocals alive with bold colours. Topics: Vocal warm-ups, South American music, Argentinian Tango
